SOCCER

Putnam Science Academy’s Residential Soccer Program affords student athletes the opportunity to combine year round soccer development with academic and personal growth. Putnam Science Academy prides itself on promoting an environment of dedication, respect and professionalism in which students are able to learn and experience the responsibilities of being a member of both a community and a team.

The PSA Mustang Soccer Program trains our student athletes to be technically capable and tactically competent players while concentrating on an attacking, possession based style of soccer with a focus on tactical pressing and moments of transition. The student athletes partake in a fall/winter/spring training schedule with matches taking place against NEPSAC member schools in addition to USYSA, US Club and USSF Development Academy teams.

Nations that have been represented for PSA Mustang Soccer are USA, Spain, Brazil, Italy, South Africa, Bermuda, Scotland, Burundi, Dominican Republic, Botswana, Slovakia, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Guatemala, Zambia, Rwanda, Canada, Thailand, Dubai, India, Kenya, Malawi, Argentina, Malawi, England, United Arab Emirates, and Mexico.

Assistant Coach Frank Taylor

Frank Taylor is a Spanish teacher at Putnam Science Academy with over 20 years of teaching experience. He is entering his fifth season as an Assistant Coach for the Prep and Varsity Men’s Soccer team.

An avid soccer player in his youth, Frank played as a midfielder (winger) and striker on Travel, Premier, and Connecticut Olympic Development teams. He was a four-year varsity starter at Mark T. Sheehan High School and completed a postgraduate year at Northfield Mount Hermon School. During his high school career, he earned multiple All-League, All-Area, and All-State honors.

Frank continued his soccer career at Trinity College, where he played four years of varsity soccer. He was also a member of the U.S. Deaf National Soccer Team that competed in the 1997 Deaf Olympics in Copenhagen, Denmark. While living and working in Costa Rica, he played in the Costa Rican Segunda B ANAFA (Third Division). Known for his technical skill and quickness, Frank was widely regarded as a dynamic and gifted player.

As a coach, he is a proponent of possession-based, high-tempo football that emphasizes technical ability and disciplined defending. Inspired by “o jogo bonito”—the beautiful game—Frank brings passion and insight to the teams he coaches. He has helped guide teams to significant achievements, including the 2023 GESP League title (Elite Team) and victories over nationally ranked schools, Premier clubs, and professional academy teams.
Frank holds a B.A. from Trinity College and pursued graduate and master’s-level studies at Southern Connecticut State University and Northeastern University in Boston.

A Connecticut native of Guatemalan and African-American heritage, he currently resides in the state with his wife and daughter. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, cooking/grilling, playing billiards, lifting weights, and attending church.
